MATH WHIZ: Four 7th and 8th-grade students took top honors Friday, March 2, in a district math tournament hosted by EMCC. The winners are, from left: Elijah Chill of Caledonia Middle School, first place, seventh grade; Hunter Hollis of New Hope Middle School, second place, seventh grade; Hannah East of New Hope Middle School, first place, eighth grade; and Isabella Whitaker of New Hope Middle School, second place, eighth grade. The math tournament, sponsored by the Mississippi Council of Teachers of Mathematics, also included contestants from Starkville Academy and West Lowndes Middle School. EMCC math instructors Shelley Hebert, Alison Alexander, Susan Carpenter, George Taylor and Clint Martin coordinated the event held in the EMCC student union on the Golden Triangle campus. The four winners qualified to compete in a statewide math tournament April 7 on the Rankin campus of Hinds Community College.
